What To Wear For A Summer Wedding

It's already Spring, summer is not far away, which is another wonderful season to get married. Have you been invited to a wedding and still don't know what to wear? Read on to get some useful ideas and you will be an elegant wedding guest.

Wedding Wear Basics

Find clues to the formality of the affair in your wedding invitation. Although the overall look of the invitation is supposed to indicate the formality of the wedding, do not depend solely on this as your guide as some brides are not familiar with this custom or choose not to follow it. Look to the meal information provided within the invitation and check the couple's website or ask a wedding party member if you are still unclear on the formality.

Wear lighter colors unless the wedding begins late in the afternoon. An all-black dress is not appropriate for an afternoon summer wedding, but a black and white dress, for example, would be acceptable for a mid- to late-afternoon wedding. Avoid wearing an all-red dress unless you trying to make an offensive statement about the bride. Never wear an all- or mostly all-white dress to a wedding; white is reserved for the bride.

Semi-Formal to Formal

A mid- to late-afternoon summer wedding is generally semi-formal, depending on the couple and the customs of your region. Wear semi-formal attire to a wedding where the bridesmaids wear tea-length gowns (mid-calf) and dinner is served. Ladies can choose among a cocktail dress, an elegant blouse with slacks or a dressy suit. Gentlemen can dress up in a nice suit or a collared dress shirt, tie and slacks. Long gowns and tuxes should only be worn to weddings that are explicitly formal or black tie.

Informal

An early afternoon summer wedding which does not offer a meal or only serves hors d'oeuvres is most likely informal. Wear clothes you will be comfortable in such as a cotton or linen sundress for the ladies and khakis and a polo shirt for the gentlemen. Dressier fabrics such as silk and chiffon are not suited for an informal wedding and should be worn to a more semi-formal to formal wedding, according to "Today" show style editor, Judy Gordon. Late-afternoon backyard barbecue or Hawaiian luau-themed weddings, for example, are also informal.
Take wedding theme, wedding place and also wedding time into considerations before you decide what to wear, different wedding formalities call for different wedding attire, have a clear idea about that and you will be named the best dressed.
